Realistic Lace Tutorial by Negshin Realistic Lace Tutorial by Negshin
I got asked how I do my lace so many times that I thought I really should just make a tutorial ^^;

This tutorial was done in Photoshop CS4 but really these techniques are pretty basic and can easily be done in any digital painting program.

Also, you don't even really need a tablet for this XD

This is my first real tutorial being posted on here so I hope it's useful :XD:

Thank you :heart:

I don't know what to say really... A DD for something I just randomly wrote at the forsaken hours of the morning o__O;;;?

wouldn't it be easier to creat a brush with the shape of step 3?

:iconnegshin:

You can create a brush if all you'd need is a straight forward pattern but if you want to rotate/flip the shapes and overlay them to create a lace pattern fabric, having a brush would be very limiting ^^;

Hi there, thank you for the comment... and it's not a stupid question at all, hopefully I can explain it here ^^
Once you have the basic shape that you are happy with, you copy it as many time as you would like (also depends on the size of the lace you're creating perhaps) and then simple move these copies around... overlap them on top of each other, resize them, rotate them, flip them etc... basically just have a lot of fun experimenting because a lot of great shapes and designs can be achieved simply by playing around with your basic layer.

LOL sometimes I even overlap and play with the new design that gets born out of the first play just to see if I can get anything more interesting out of it ^^
well, I hope that makes sense ^^;

yup, it makes perfect sense :) thank you. but is there a way to make the lace look curved?or is that also achieved by resizing?

If you would like to use them as brushes, please feel free to do so, I have no problems with that as long as it is not going to be brushes made for sale.
And thank you, glad you find it useful ^^
